Need your BC? Better get a cop...
These pharmacists are just getting more ridiculous by the day. The Associated Press reported yesterday on a pharmacist in Wisconsin Kmart who refused to fill a college student’s prescription for birth control pills—or refer her to another pharmacy—because he didn’t want to commit a sin. Here we go again.
In his disciplinary hearing, Neil Noesen told a judge that he “would have trouble sleeping at night,” if he refilled Amanda Phiede’s birth control pills. In Phiede’s complaint, she described how Noesen asked her if the prescription would be used for contraception (like it’s his fucking business!) and then refused to refill it after she replied that it would.
Great part of this insane story though—Phiede returned to the pharmacy the next day with police to get her pills. Nice work on her part, though you have to be pretty freaked out when the day comes along that you need a police escort just to get your birth control.
Noesen could potentially face a loss of his pharmacist’s license, though who knows with all of these “conscience clause” laws floating around the states these days.
So for anyone out there who still doesn’t think your reproductive rights are in danger—think about how it would make you feel to need a cop just to refill a prescription.
