Tell top bloggers that choice matters!
With the Roberts nomination front and center, choice is being talked about more and more, especially on some of the most well-known political blogs. But what’s disturbing is that choice and abortion are being discussed—in blogs and in the media—more as a political tool than as an issue that affects women’s lives.
So NARAL is issuing a call to action. We’ve listed five of the some of the most well-known progressive blogs below—go to them and make your voice heard. Use their comments sections to make sure that choice is being discussed as something that affects women, not just politics.
Daily Kos
Perhaps the most well-known progressive blog, Daily Kos gets ridiculous hits and covers a broad spectrum of issues. Like many political blogs however, it could use a nice dose of women’s voices--especially on choice.
Eschaton
Right up there with Kos, this blog is super well-known and insanely comprehensive. There are literally hundreds of comments for some posts, so pro-choice voices can get lost in there--make sure it doesn’t happen!
My DD
Another big one, My DD is run by co-bloggers Jerome Armstrong and Chris Bowers. While their Roberts coverage has been great, it would be great to see more on the choice aspect.
The Left Coaster
A terrific group blog, The Left Coaster recently posted about the latest polls on abortion. Go check it out, and make sure the conversation isn’t all about numbers.
Swing State Project
The Swing State Project focuses on election news, covering key races across the country. This is a great place to make your voice heard on local and state choice issues.
Note: All these blogs do amazing work...but it never hurts to increase the choice factor!

» At Daily Kos, it's politics over principle from Dadahead
Kos's attitude toward abortion rights is typical - it's a 'pet cause'. I don't think I've come across a more insulting statement on a supposedly progressive blog. To Kos a woman's basic autonomy is a 'pet' issue. Easy for him to say. [Read More]

Yeah, so, I've been gone for a while due to technical difficulties encountered while reformatting my hard drive. I've missed the debate about the NARAL ad; I say "hurrah" to them for stirring a bit of controversy. I've missed the... [Read More]

On my blog I have posted proof that the Christian Coalition (which is supporting Roberts) is for white Protestant theocracy in the federal courts.

Gareth,
If the Christian Coalition is for white Protestant theocracy, it couldn't possibly support Roberts because Judge Roberts is not a Protestant.

Can you write up basic talking points?
What amazes me it the ignorance displayed on the "liberal" blogs about Roe and women's reproductive rights.
I cringe when I hear Democrats talk about:
* Abortion on Demand
The majority on the liberal blogs really believe the women can walk into a clinic like they do McDonalds (and that they are on every street corner) and get an abortion on a whim. They need to know that is not the case in ALL of the states. That like in NH that 80% of women do NOT have access to abortion facilities....etc.
* Partial Birth Abortion
This need to be revealed for the scam it is.
I have even seen where people think that women can get "abortion on demand" two days before birth!!!
The situation in the liberal blogosphere is dire. There is NO INFORMATION. These people are not knowledgeable about womens repoductive rights because they have always assumed that it was a "RIGHT".
The audience for NARAL has changed...
YOU NEED TO PREACH TO THE CHOIR!!!
Most Democrats and particulary Democratic men and young women haven't a clue about Roe and reproductive rights.
I have searched your website and it is quite confusing and seems to be geared to seasoned activists and not to "newbies".
Where can I find wording on Roe v Wade in simple language on one page?
It also doesn't help that the biggest of the "librul" bloggers has made it his personal mission to smear NARAL and all the work of women's rights activist for the last 100 years.
I really thing that some one at NARAL needs to have a presence on some of the major "super blogs" particulary on DailyKos. He has wipped up a mass hysteria about the evils of "single issue" groups and in particular NARAL.
Identifying yourself as NARAL is okay since half of his posters are political operatives anyway. Kos seems to forget that NARAL stood up for John Kerry when he made the gaff about nominating anti-choice federal judges. NARAL came out and said that Kerry was still better than Bush.
Only NARAL can undo some of the damage that Kos is inflicting on NARAL. YOu need to stand up and account for your positions in New Hampshire. Personally I think that NARAL is right on target. I would like to see a great deal more of a NARAL presence in the blogosphere and as you are a non partisan organization you are not limited to just "librul" blogs.
I don't suggest you get into a slinging match with them... which is their forte, but just state the facts. They have already pummeled anyone who tries to stand up for NARAL and women's rights. And lastly, you need to talk up the fact that it is not about Roberts but about:
THE CRIMINALIZATION OF ABORTION
Once people realize that this is more than a so-called "moral" issue but has legal implications aas well then the story changes.
Here is a video that confronts anti-abortion activist on the legal implications of their protest. It is astonishing....none of them had ever thought that the women would actually go to jail.

Making this about Roberts "personally" is a mistake. It will only lead to tangents AWAY from the real issue. America must be asked point blank "Should women to go to jail for having abortions".That is the point not what Roberts did 18 years ago...

You folks have a great message about choice, but until you review your endorsement of Linc Chaffee, it'll be hard to take you folks seriously. His re-election is not assured.
The greatest threat to Roe is the GOP. (Griswold is also threatened.) Winning back the Senate would do much to protect women's healthcare rights.
For TrueBlueDem: the main reason you won't see a simple one-liner about Roe is that it really was a detailed decision. You really should see the whole thing (easily googled).

i agree with trubluedem on all of her points. Kos attacks NARAL in a huge way.
Witness this thread.
NARAL's bloggy call to action
I read your piece here and you seem to be urging me to go to DailyKos. Why not try calling me for help once you're over there? NARAL needs a presence on DailyKos. We will support you if you establish it. It isn't pretty though, and we're outnumbered.

SlatsGrobnik: I said a one pager not a one liner.
What is most interesting in Kos's lastest rant is that he completely forgets that DFL Democrats for life refuse to endorse Kerry. Langevin is a member of DFL and Kos is throwing a hissy fit because NARAL did not support a candidate that refuse to endorse the Democratic nominee for president... go figure. And it is this same organization that Pelosi and Ried want the DNC to link their stinking website.
Kos also "forgot" to quote your last line in his lastest NARAL bashing:
Note: All these blogs do amazing work...but it never hurts to increase the choice factor!

Hi, I came back to check on the discussion. I'm the one with proof that the Christian Coalition supports white Protestant theocracy. Yes, and they also support a Catholic nominee picked by George Bush. With these people you cannot expect reason, logic or consistency. They're fanatics with irrational views. Read the essay they are posting and distributing for yourself and tell me what you think. I posted a version with my comments and analysis, or you can read the original on their site.
